What is the IDEAS project?
“Project to Enhance the Digital skills and E-commerce for Small and medium enterprises (DNNNV) of ASEAN women”
IDEAS is the brand name of the original project titled “Empowering ASEAN Women Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Digital Economy”. IDEAS project is our mission to drive transformative change, to enhance the digital capabilities of ASEAN women who own SMEs.
The profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has spread around the world and has hit women particularly hard. They face job insecurity and have little access to government subsidies. Recognizing the increased isolation women face during the pandemic, the Asia-Pacific Women’s Information Network Center at Sookmyung University has turned its attention to the digital divide affecting women in ASEAN countries. In the current business landscape, accelerating digital transformation is necessary not only to survive but also to remain competitive. In response, APWINC initiated the “IDEAS” project with support from the Ministry of Sekretariat ASEAN and the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund. This project is specifically designed to support ASEAN women SMEs facing operational challenges and women entrepreneurs seeking opportunities in the digital economy. To bridge this digital divide, IDEAS is targeting five key activities, with 200 trainers and 4.2 million ASEAN women in member countries to benefit. APWINC aims to achieve several project objectives, including empowering ASEAN women, revitalizing ASEAN’s digital economy, and strengthening Korea-ASEAN relations. In addition, APWINC is committed to continuous efforts to promote the digital economy of women-owned SMEs in ASEAN.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Support and enhance the competitiveness of women entrepreneurs in the ASEAN region and promote their active participation in the growing digital economy. The project is expected to conduct training with the participation of 255 experts from 10 ASEAN member countries. These experts will share their knowledge, experience and most effective strategies in the field of entrepreneurship and the digital economy.
During the project implementation, training sessions will take place in 10 countries in the ASEAN region, providing opportunities for more than 4,002 women entrepreneurs to gain in-depth knowledge and skills needed to develop and manage their businesses effectively. In the Vietnam region, the project will focus on selecting approximately 600 potential women entrepreneurs to participate in training courses, enabling them to experience and apply the newly learned methods and strategies in their business practices.
