iMapVietnam [imapvietnam.org], a business authentication and impact measurement platform for Vietnam’s sustainable development goals. iMap connects with consumers who are interested in using their service products responsibly, while connecting with potential investors.
V.innovate [vinnovate.vn], a platform to evaluate innovative ecosystems, start-ups and social impact for universities and localities. This is the latest platform that IID has developed dedicated to the innovative startup ecosystem that has an impact on Vietnam. V.innovate’s benchmarks can help users self-assess, locate universities, the level of development of the local business system in the provinces, cities of Vietnam.
Assc.Dr Zhang Thi Nam Thang – Institute for Research, Innovation and Development, Co-Chairman, Technology Village for Social Impact Techfest Vietnam (Techfest Impact), the co-organizer, said that the biggest challenge of the social creative, impact-making business sector is the lack of access to opportunities and resources, especially quality human resources, access to product markets and capital markets, as well as a lack of a supportive ecosystem. Therefore, this is an event of special significance for the Vietnamese start-up ecosystem when it announces three digital platforms developed and operated by IID.
Affirming the need for the creation of the above-mentioned three platforms, Mr. Dám Quang Thắng – Chairman of the National Advisory Council for Startup and Creative Innovation – said that social enterprises and impact-making enterprises are the development trend of the innovative start-up ecosystem in general. The creation of these three platforms is a very important event, helping to concentrate resources to support and create a start-up ecosystem, social enterprise and impact-making enterprise. At the same time, it’s the key to solving the entries and outputs of these.
However, he also said that building the foundation is easy, but the question is who will be the participant. It’s a very difficult problem to solve and it needs to be active enough to involve all the components of the ecosystem, the community. This requires time and resources. “The foundation is like we’re building a market. When the market is completed, people have to go into business and buy and sell. Therefore, it is necessary to intensify activities to enhance capacity, awareness and social connectivity so that the platform attracts more participants and receives benefits financially or socially,” he said.
Sharing this point, Assc.Dr. Vo Dal Luoc – former head of the World Institute of Economics and Politics – said, implementing innovation and creativity is not easy, because of what we think is new but not because the world has done it all. “I met an American corporation, only 10% of the inventions were put into practice, and 90% were put in the safe, because if they were to be put in place, the entire old production system would have to be discarded. The countries that are behind us are very difficult to abandon, and it is impossible to look for innovation that people already have,” said Mr. Vao Dal Lakh and said that, in addition to taking creative innovation seriously, it is necessary to think about how to nurture them.
Mr. Nguyen Ding Cung – former head of the Central Institute of Economic Management (CIEM) – estimates that social enterprises when they do business successfully, they will share their ways and experiences of success with others. Because they realize that their power is limited, the more people participate and multiply, the better. The experience of sharing connections through the above platforms will be useful for social enterprises.
In the framework of the event, the publication of the translated book “Maximizing Social Impact: Guide to Social Entrepreneurs” was held.
