WHAT IS THE IDEAS PROJECT?

“Project to Enhance Digital Skills and E-commerce for ASEAN Women’s Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)”

IDEAS is the brand name of the original project called “Enhancing the Digital Economy for ASEAN Women’s Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)”. The IDEAS project is our mission to drive groundbreaking change to strengthen the digital capacity of ASEAN women-owned Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has spread across the globe and has had a particularly severe impact on women. They face job insecurity and have less access to government subsidies. Recognizing the increased isolation women face during the pandemic, the Asia-Pacific Women’s Information Network Center at Sookmyung University has turned its attention to the digital divide affecting women in ASEAN countries. In today’s business landscape, accelerating digital transformation is essential not only for survival but also for maintaining competitiveness. In response, APWINC has initiated the “IDEAS” project with support from the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund. This project is specifically designed to support ASEAN women’s MSMEs facing operational challenges and female entrepreneurs seeking opportunities in the digital economy. To bridge this digital divide, IDEAS is targeting five key activities, with 200 trainers and 4.2 million ASEAN women in member countries to benefit. APWINC aims to achieve a number of project goals, including empowering ASEAN women, revitalizing the ASEAN digital economy, and strengthening Korea-ASEAN relations. In addition, APWINC is committed to continuous efforts to promote the digital economy of women-owned MSMEs in ASEAN.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

To support and enhance the competitiveness of female entrepreneurs in the ASEAN region, while promoting their active participation in the growing digital economy. The project is expected to roll out training with the participation of 255 experts from 10 ASEAN member countries. These experts will share their knowledge, experience and the most effective strategies in the field of business and the digital economy.

During the project implementation, training sessions will be held in 10 countries in the ASEAN region, providing opportunities for more than 4002 female entrepreneurs to gain in-depth knowledge and the necessary skills to effectively develop and manage their businesses. In the region of Vietnam, the project will focus on selecting around 600 potential female entrepreneurs to participate in training courses, enabling them to experience and apply the new methods and strategies learned to their business practices.
